Learn the System

Learn the System While You Wait
Your training starts the day you buy, not the day your drone arrives. Every Hylio purchase comes with instant access to an installer for AgroSol, our ground control software, so you can start learning the exact system you'll fly in the field.

Start in the simulator
Built right into AgroSol is a full flight simulator that lets you fly simulated missions using the same controls and process flows as the real UAS, both autonomous and manual operations. It's the perfect first step: you build real muscle memory on the actual interface, with zero risk and no drone required. By the time your systems land on your doorstep, the software will already feel familiar.

Then dive into the full training suite
Alongside the simulator, every customer gets our comprehensive training library: step-by-step tutorial videos, searchable digital manuals, and detailed checklists. Most operators feel comfortable and confident flying their Hylio UAS in just 5 to 6 hours, completing the full training in a single workday. You'll gain confidence in every aspect of drone operation, including:

• Hardware and software control
• FAA regulations and compliance
• Precision spraying and best practices
• Routine maintenance and battery care
• Safety and emergency procedures

Put your waiting period to work. With the AgroSol simulator and Hylio's expert training resources, you'll be ready to fly safely and effectively from the moment your drone arrives.

What do you need to legally fly and apply?

Licensing may feel complex, but you don't have to navigate it alone. With a track record of helping hundreds of customers, Hylio offers a streamlined experience through unlimited consulting and a clear regulatory roadmap. We provide all the documentation necessary to get you legally airborne.

FAA Aircraft Registration (N-Number)

+

What it is: Every drone in your fleet must be individually registered with the FAA. Because spray drones exceed 55 pounds, they are registered like manned aircraft under 14 CFR Part 47 and receive a unique N-number, the aviation equivalent of a license plate, commonly called a tail number. The number must be displayed on the aircraft.

How to get it: Registering from scratch means mailing an application and a notarized affidavit of ownership to the FAA Aircraft Registration Branch, then waiting weeks for your N-number to come back before you can move forward. We've eliminated that wait: because we're the manufacturer, we pre-register every drone with its own N-number at our factory before it ships. When your drone arrives, simply sign and mail the pre-filled registration transfer we provide. Ownership transfers the moment you submit that form, so there's no waiting on the FAA; you can move straight into your 44807 exemption and Part 137 filings.

FAA Part 107 (Remote Pilot Certificate)

+

What it is: The mandatory FAA pilot credential, often called the "drone pilot's license," for all commercial UAS operations in the U.S., including spray, camera, and survey drones. Formally, it is the Remote Pilot Certificate issued under 14 CFR Part 107.

How to get it: Pass a 60-question, multiple-choice knowledge exam (70% to pass) at an FAA-approved testing center. You can prepare via self-study or by enrolling in an affordable online prep course.

FAA Part 137 (Agricultural Aircraft Operator Certificate)

+

What it is: The FAA operating certificate required to legally dispense or spray any substance from a drone. Issued under 14 CFR Part 137, it is the same certificate held by manned agricultural operators like crop dusters. Unlike Part 107, it is issued to the operator (you or your business) rather than to the pilot.

How to get it: Submit an application to the FAA describing your operation, aircraft, and pilots. We provide comprehensive guides and example templates for every stage, assisting you through the FAA application and final approval process.

Section 44807 Exemption (Heavy Drone Authorization)

+

What it is: A grant of exemption issued by the FAA under 49 U.S.C. § 44807 that authorizes operation of drones weighing 55 pounds or more, which Part 107 alone does not cover. Because nearly all spray drones exceed 55 pounds when loaded, this exemption is a required companion to your Part 137 certificate.

How to get it: File a petition for exemption with the FAA, typically alongside your Part 137 application. The FAA has streamlined approval for drone models it has already exempted, so petitions covering established platforms like ours move through the process faster. Our templates cover this filing as well.

State Pesticide Applicator License

+

What it is: A state-issued license (in some states, a "certification") required to apply pesticides commercially. It is administered by your state's department of agriculture under the EPA's federal certification program (FIFRA). Spray drone operators generally need a commercial applicator license with the appropriate aerial or agricultural category, and exact names, categories, and requirements vary by state.

How to get it: Pass your state's applicator exam(s), usually a general/core exam plus a category exam, and pay the licensing fee. Contact your state department of agriculture for the specific categories and study materials that apply to drone application in your state.
